MGM IS IN NEGOTIATIONS WITH STALLONE TO REPRISE HIS ROLE AS 'ROCKY BALBOA' ...
MGM is in final negotiations with "ROCKY" creator Sylvester Stallone, to write, star and produce "ROCKY VI".
The original 1976 "ROCKY" was budgeted north of $1 million, grossing more than $220 million worldwide. "ROCKY VI" will be budgeted in the $10 million-$15 million range.
Premise of "ROCKY VI" features Stallone as a fit, 50-year-old 'Rocky Balboa', now running an inner city youth center. Balboa is eventually 'lured' out of retirement and returns to the ring " ... for one last fight."
Stallone will produce "ROCKY VI" with Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff. The project is being shepherded by MGM president Michael Nathanson.
MGM's "ROCKY" titles continue to profit the company in home video/DVD and video games.
Following 1976's "ROCKY", MGM released "Rocky II" (1979), "Rocky III" (1982), "Rocky IV" (1985) and "Rocky V" (1990).
