Paramount Pictures has greenlit a CGI version of "MIGHTY MOUSE" for its Nickelodeon Films. Terence Chang will produce with partner John Woo.
Rights to the original Terrytoons cartoons are owned by Viacom.
"MIGHTY MOUSE" first appeared in a series of Terrytoon cartoons in 1942. Isadore Klein of Terrytoons had first proposed 'Super Fly', but it was studio boss Paul Terry who combined 'Mickey Mouse' with 'Superman' for 'SUPER MOUSE' debuting October 16, 1942 in the cartoon "The Mouse of Tomorrow". Unknown to Terry, there was already a comic book 'super mouse', so he later changed the name to 'Mighty Mouse'.
In 1945 Mighty Mouse appeared in 'Terrytoons Comics', published by the company that would later become Marvel.
Paul Terry sold his studio to CBS in the '50's and in 1956 CBS packaged Mighty Mouse with other Terrytoons as the "Mighty Mouse Playhouse", airing on CBS from 1955-67.
In 1979, Filmation produced a new series and in the '80's former Terrytoons animator/director Ralph Bakshi ("Fritz The Cat", "Cool World") produced another series ...
